خلاصه : Talezang Railway Bridge is one of the most famous historical stone arch bridges in Iran. This bridge was constructed in 1935 and opened to traffic in 1938. This bridge is located in Lorestan Railway route, between Dorood and Andimeshk. The bridge is near Talezang station, and it is constructed across a deep valley. The bridge follows an S shaped curve and is located between two tunnels. The bridge has 9 spans of 10 m and one main span with 72 m length. This bridge had a significant role in the victory of the Allies in World War II, and also in Holy Defence of Iran against Iraq. In Iran-Iraq war, the bridge was repeatedly attacked but it was not damaged significantly, except in 1986, when an air attack caused demolition of the main span of the bridge and the railway route, therefore the south west route was disconnected. Due to the importunacy of reopening of the supply route, a new steel deck was designed and implemented in 1987. The length of the steel deck is 72 m and consists of six 2.5 m depth steel girders connected by cross braces and chords. At each abutment, the deck rests on six non-seismic elastomeric pads. The steel bridge had excessive vibrations under train loads and it was due to a number of reasons. The steel deck is straight in a plan, but the railway is curved and this causes eccentricity which can be mentioned as one of the reasons. Therefore, the speed of train was limited to 6 km/hr to reduce the vibration. After the war, the bridge retrofitted in two stages. In the first stage, the bridge post-tensioned with 15 cables to reduce negative stresses. In the second stage, four inclined columns added to the bridge. These columns divided the bridge into 3 spans with the length of 15; 42 and 15 m, respectively. The problem was partially solved with these retrofitting, and they could increase the speed of trains to 20 km/hr. Field tests on the bridge showed that the acceleration of the middle part of the bridge reaches close to 1g, which causes unfavorable vibration. This study addresses the effectiveness of Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) in reducing train-induced vibrations of Talezang Railway Bridge. A three dimensional finite-element model of the bridge is developed and dynamic time history analyses under train load in both as-built and passively controlled with TMD are conducted. The sensitivity analyses are performed to demonstrate the effects of damper parameters on structural response. The results show that considerable reduction in acceleration response of the bridge can be achieved by employing proper TMD.
